Intro

Tromping footsteps resound from the stairwell and into the long dingy lecture hall. A horde of late teens and twenty somethings begin to trickle into the room. This class draws from across the board, from math majors to the up and coming pre-journalism students and everything in between. Yes, its Journalism 100H. Yes, we are all embarking on the journey known as Media History and Literacy. Most of the rabble has found its seat, next to me sits the smoothie slurping man by the name of Austin Thunder McClure. In front of me are a bunch of other strange looking people, I don't know their names though. I just know them by their strange mannerisms, such as picking their nose and wiping it on their neighbors shoulder, or making "rock on" gestures when the professor makes a "good" point.

This brings up the most interesting feature of all, Professor Lee Banville, his name comes up as a spelling error, my computer software would prefer to call him Lee Bangle, but thats not right. In fact- its weird. But alas, as his name is a typo, we'll just call him Professor X. Professor X is intimidating. Students don't like to sit in the front for fear of being mauled or eaten by him. Late comers might as well be no-comers in Professor X's world. Every day he gives us a poorly made powerpoint, where the highlight of the day is a video clip of Oprah.

Even in this dismal setting we find hope, an urge to please, a desire to succeed. This class is a battle against the titans of mediocrity, and we strive desperately to overcome them, to decapitate them, to prance around the fields of success hoisting their heads high on our lances hollering our victory. But alas its only week two of the semester, and the only rays of hope are coming in the form of sunlight, through this window I'm sitting next to.

So it begins.
